Since half of our students are new to the building as 7th graders, below is a list of common questions for incoming students.
Will students be issued a laptop?
Yes. All students in grades 7-8 will be issued a Chromebook to use for the school year.
How many class periods are there at McCormick?
There are a total of 9 periods, but lunch and study hall count as one. Each instructional period is forty-one minutes long.
What's the school's phone number?
MJHS can be reached by dialing 419-433-1234 extension 2000.
Does every student have a study hall?
Yes. Every student gets a thirty-minute study hall. Many students are able to achieve a lot during this time, but they will still need time to complete homework and study for quizzes and tests in the evenings.
What times can students enter the building?
Students can enter the building as early at 7 am. From 7:00-7:20 am students can either go to the gym and wait, or they can go to the cafeteria and wait. If they go to the cafeteria, we ask that they purchase breakfast. *Students who receive free or reduced lunches also apply to breakfast.
Is there a parent pickup line?
No. Parents are asked to pick up students on Ohio Street while parked in designated parking spots. Please refrain from trying to go around the school building as the buses load in the rear of the school.
How long do my child's shorts need to be?
This year shorts need to be at least mid-thigh length.
Can students wear flip-flops?
No. All footwear must have either a back or a strap for safety reasons.
Do students need to change clothes for gym class?
Yes, Mr. James will review the guidelines with students on their first day of PE class.
Do I need to purchase a lock for my locker?
No, every student will be assigned a locker with a built-in locker. Students will need to learn how to use a combination lock- they will have plenty of time to learn at school.
What sports are offered for junior high students?
Volleyball, Cross Country, Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Swim, and Track.
What do I do to call off my child when they are sick?
Please call 419-433-1234 ext. 2000 before 7:30 am. Someone will always answer calls from 7 am-3:15 pm, but you can always leave a voicemail. We will contact you if we don't hear from you when your child isn't in school.
