HURON HIGH SCHOOL

1. Congratulations to both the boys and girls cross country teams. Each
team brought home some hardware from the Ashland Cross Country
Invitational. The girls placed third, only six places out of first.
The boys finished fourth out of fourteen teams.Top
finishers for the girls were Grace Moser who took second in the race,
followed by a fourth place finish from Cassie Currence and a fifth from
Sarah Neibler. Sarah Blevins finished 19th in the race.
Top
finishers for the boys were Shane Thatcher who placed 3rd in his race,
followed by Ronnie Brandal (14th), Nathan Pack (15th), and Casey
VanCauwenbergh (16th and also had a PR).
Congratulations to both teams!
2. Attention NHS members: There will be a meeting in the library right after school today. See Mrs. Merckens with any questions.
3. Attention sophomores, juniors and seniors: If you were accidentally
left out of last year's yearbook (14/15), please come to the office by Wednesday
at the end of first period and sign on the form found on the counter.
We are working to create an insert for any student that had a picture
taken by Ripcho but not included in the yearbook.
4. Attention students interested in Model UN: There will be a meeting right after school on Wednesday for those who haven't signed up for a nation yet to pick new ones. See Mrs. Merckens in room 206 with questions.
5. If you are interested in Science Club, the first meeting will be Thursday, September 10th, after school in room 101. If you can't attend Thursday but are still interested in becoming a member, please see Ms. Telenko or Mr. Asher.
6. Seniors:
The "Elks Student of the Month" applications are available in the
guidance office. Seven male and seven female students will be selected
to represent Huron High School in the competition for a $250, $500 and
$1,000 scholarship. If selected as a student of the month, you will not
only be entered into the local scholarship competition but also have
your bio in the Sandusky Register and be invited to a scholarship dinner
in May. Applications are due by September 25.
7. The first yearbook meeting will be Wednesday, September 9,
immediately after school in
room 99. This club is open to all students.
If you are interested in being involved, you must either show up or see
Mrs. Lee sometime before the meeting.
8. Homecoming
is just around the corner and girls are already thinking about their
homecoming dresses. Cinderella's Closet has a large selection of
homecoming dresses and will open their closet doors for Homecoming Dress
Shopping Day on September 19th and 26th from 10am-2pm,
by appointment only. Homecoming dresses will be provided at no cost to
high school girls. Girls if the cost of purchasing a dress for
Homecoming might be something you could use assistance with, please see
Mrs Fahr in the Guidance office.
9. Attention all students: BGSU Firelands will be hosting a college fair on Tuesday,
September 15th, from 6:30-8pm
in the Cedar Point Center. Several colleges from our state will be
there. Save a trip and meet with college admissions staff all in one
place!
10. Any student interested in taking the PSAT test on Oct. 14th are to sign up in the Guidance department by Thursday, Oct. 8th. The cost is $15. Preferred payment would be with a check or money order.
11. Lunch today is a bacon cheeseburger, hamburger or a cold cut sub.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
