HURON HIGH SCHOOL

ANNOUNCEMENTS - THURSDAY,  MARCH 11, 2010

1. On Friday, March 12 the school will celebrate Pi(3.14) day.  In honor of Pi day the symbol for Pi will be hidden all over the school.  If a student finds the Pi symbol they must take it to the nearest math teacher.  The teacher will give you a ticket to sign and put in a container.  Your name will be entered in a drawing for a pie drawn 7th period.  Three Berardi pies in all will be given away, Chocolate Cream, Banana Cream and Apple.  The student may earn an extra ticket if they make or answer the following:

 

1-make a poster celebrating Pi(3.14) day and post it on a math teachers door or in their room.

2-wear a T-shirt with Pi (3.14)  

3-memorize Pi(3.14) to 12 or more digits and recite it to a math teacher.

7-Recite the formula, using Pi, for the Circumference of a circle 

8- Recite the formula, using Pi, for the Area of a circle 

9- Recite the formula, using Pi, for the Volume of a Cylinder.

10-What famous Mathematician was born on Pi day.

11-who was closer to the true calculation of Pi, the 

     Babylonians or the Egyptians?~ What %?

2. Baseball practice will be 6-8 tonight.

 

3. Attention all new National Honor Society inductees:  There will be a brief meeting after school Friday.  Be sure to attend.

 

4. Attention all winter sports participants:  On Friday, March 12, the custodial staff will be taking down all locker decorations at the end of the day. If you wish to save yours, please take it down yourselves.

 

5. The library is OPEN 5th period today.

 

6. Track members are reminded today is the last day for cookie sales.  All forms and money MUST be turned in or you will have to go home to get it. 

 

7. The 2010 Summer School applications for EHOVE are available in the guidance office.

 

8. March 31st is the last day to turn in an application for the Academic Letter.  You must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a 3.6 cumulative GPA to apply.  Applications are available in the high school office.

 

9. Attention seniors who are 17 or older and in good standing:  You have the opportunity to participate as an official poll worker for Erie County on primary election day --May 4, 2010.  You must commit to a one hour training session and work the entire day on election day, but you get paid $112 for your efforts.  Please see Mrs. Merckens in room 210 for the application and permission form.

 

10. French Club candy sale will continue this week!  Have you tried any strawberry or blue raspberry bonbons yet?  They are on sale during your lunch period this week.

 

11. News from the Huron Public Library:

 

Make a T-Shirt Quilt in 3 Easy Lessons:

Saturdays, March 13, March 27 and April 10, 10:30-12 PM.  Learn to make a t-shirt quilt in this program for anyone from 7th graders to adults. Plan to attend all three sessions. Access to a sewing machine and knowledge in its use is required. The quilt will require 9 to 12 t-shirts. Call 419-433-5009 or e-mail huron@huronlibrary.org to register.

 

Teen Library Council (TLC)will NOT meet this Friday, March 12 but WILL meet on Friday, March 19, 3–4 PM. This is a special meeting to sign up for our April 16th READATHON and talent show. Be sure to attend!

 

12. Attention Seniors:  Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 42 will be accepting applications for Building Trades Apprentices on April 5 - April 16 from 8 am - 4 pm at their Norwalk office.  More information about this apprenticeship opportunity is posted outside the high school office.
