Lesson
Opportunity to Learn (O.T.L.) point system
1. O.T.L. assignment is on a percentage basis:
A. Neat, not sloppy, no messy writing, straight lines in drawings, no messy erasures.
B. Complete- must be attempted, numbered, and/or lettered, and directions followed. Honest effort must be shown, no copying.
1. Do not work problems on scrap paper and put the answers on the assignment paper and expect to get full credit. All steps must be shown.
C. The heading on the papers must be completed. No partial names or partial information.
D. Fold your paper left to right to make a separation in your paper for work.
E. Leave a space between each new problem.
2. For each problem left not done or incomplete a point will be taken off.
3. Zero points if not handed in or late papers. Papers done in ink will automatically worth only 50% .
4. A percent for O.T.L. work completed will be placed on you paper. Example-20 problems, 3 not done or answer only(no work shown)-grade 85%.
Assignments
1. O.T.L Assignments are due the next class session unless otherwise told. Unexcused absence is a zero.
2. Attempt every assigned problem.
3. Work problems in numerical and or alphabetical order.
4. Two O.T.L. assignments below a C- and your parents/guardian will be called..
5. The day’s assignment and the weekly assignments will always be on the board. NOT EVERY O.T.L. WORK WILL BE COUNTED FOR A GRADE.
6. DO NOT try to guess which assignment will be graded.
Absence
1. You have as many school days to hand in assignments as school days you were absent.
2. Please write ‘ABSENT’ on the paper and put the date you turned it in and place it in the absent basket on my desk.
Food
There will be no food or drinks brought or consumed in the class. You may chew gum as long as you throw it away in the wastebasket.
Tests
Chapter or Mid-chapter Tests will be multiple choice, matching, and/or fill in the blank.
Behavior (all subject to a 7am - 15min. detention)
1. Only a problem when:
a. There are inappropriate comments.
b. You will not sleep or put your head down on the desk.
c. You get out of your seat without permission. Sharpen your pencil before or after class.
d. You write notes to other students when you should be doing your work.
e. You take something from my desk, someone else’s desk, open the windows and/or touch the computer/smartboard without permission.
f. You’re out of your seat when the bell rings.
Grading
Tests and O.T.L. assignments will make up the grades and are equal in value.
98-100% A+ 87-89% B+ 77-79% C+ 67-69% D+
93-97% A 83-86% B 73-76% C 63-66% D
90-92% A- 80-82% B- 70-72% C- 60-62% D-
Below 60% F
Materials needed:
All students need a pencil, lined full sized paper, graph paper, and a scientific calculator.
The Geometry students also need a protractor, a compass,.
A 3-ring binder would come in handy to keep all your returned papers. Do not store your papers in your book.
