         Research Experience

           •Undergraduate Research Scholar involved in research with ts-mutants

               of Streptococcus equi, the causative agent of Strangles (similar to

               Strep Throat, but lethal) in horses. Our work aimed ultimately to

               produce an improved vaccine for this lethal disease of horses.

             •Internship with Case Western Reserve University in the Department

               of Pharmacology.  Conducted research on the corA Magnesium

               transport protein in Salmonella typhimurium. Funding provided by

               a grant from the American Heart Association to better understand

               the role of ion transport proteins in the development of heart

               disease.

           Field Experience

              •Field Studies in the Grand Tetons, Wyoming (1990 and 1991).

               Studied Geology, Ecology, Alpine Biology

              •Marine Biology Field Studies on Andros Island, Forfar Field Station

               (1989/90)

              •Geology Field Studies in 19 National Parks (1988)
