Graduation Requirements

STANDARD HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA—will be awarded to students who have demonstrated ninth grade proficiency in reading, writing, mathematics, citizenship, and science (if planning to graduate in  2006). Students planning to graduate in 2007 or later must pass all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).  Students must also meet the following minimum requirements and have achieved a 1.60 or better grade point average.

HURON HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OF DISTINCTION-- will be awarded to students who have demonstrated ninth grade proficiency in reading, writing, mathematics, citizenship, and science (if planning to graduate in  2006). Students planning to graduate in 2007 or later must pass all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).  Student must volunteer for a minimum of 50 hours of community service and have these hours documented on proper forms obtained in the Guidance Office.  Students must also meet the following minimum requirements and have achieved a 2.60 or better grade point average (determined by rounding off two decimal points) and earned a minimum of twenty-five total credits.

STATE OF OHIO HONORS DIPLOMA --will be awarded to students who have demonstrated ninth grade proficiency in reading, writing, mathematics, citizenship, and science (if planning to graduate in  2006). Students planning to graduate in 2007 or later must pass all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).   Students must also meet eight of the following nine requirements:

  1. Earn four credits in English

  2. Earn three credits in Mathematics (must include one credit in Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry)

  3. Earn three credits in Science (must include emphasis on physical, life, earth, & space)

  4. Earn three credits in Social Studies

  5. Earn three credits in Foreign Languages (must include three credits of one language or two credits each of two languages)

  6. Complete one credit of Fine Art (chorus, band, or art)

  7. Either one credit of Business/technology and two additional credits in 1-6 above or earn three additional units in 1-6 above

  8. Maintain a 3.5 GPA for seven semesters

  9. Have at least a 27 on the ACT or a 1220 on the SAT  (new test score criteria will be coming in the Fall from the State due to the new versions of these tests.
