2016 Mid-Year District Update
The Superintendent and Treasurer addressed the Board at the January 2016 Board of Education meeting and provided a FY2016 Mid Year Review.

Congratulations to the entire Model United Nations club for its success in Columbus. 
Huron Schools Earns Spot on 6th Annual AP Honor Roll
Huron City Schools is one of 425 school districts in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the 6th Annual AP District Honor Roll. 
Safe Routes To School Travel Plan
The City of Huron Local School District, City of Huron, and Erie Regional Planning Commission (ERPC), have drafted a Safe Routes to School Travel Plan and is in the process of gathering public input.  
2 Hr Delay
This year the Huron Schools would like to inform everyone of the possibility of a two (2) hour school delay. 
Parental Guidance -Student Participation in State Assessments
Federal and state laws require all districts and schools to test all students in specific grades and courses.  
Proposed Change in School Funding Legislation
Proposed funding change in public education: Impact to Huron - Revenue loss due to Tangible Personal Property Tax (TPP) for 2017 may be reduced to approximately $125,000. While this is good news for 2017 and the short term, the complete phase out will continue until the dollars from the TPP reimbursement fund are gone. 
Grandparents Day at Shawnee and Woodlands
The power of family is something that makes Huron a special place. “Grandparents' Day” is a time when we celebrate family in our school. 
Why Third Grading Reading Is So Important
Under Ohio’s Third Grade Reading Guarantee, a student’s third grade year can be the most pivotal. 
State Testing Information for Parent and Students
Ohio’s Achievement Tests will be:

•Shorter than those given last school year
•Given once during the year
•Given closer to the end of the school year
 
Coffee Connections - Public Engagement Opportunity
Huron Schools and the City of Huron are once again partnering on a series of community engagement opportunities for area residents. Huron city manager Andy White and Huron Schools superintendent Dennis Muratori began offering citizens Saturday morning forums known as Coffee Connections in 2013. 
Transportation News
Huron Schools recently welcomed 3 new buses to the fleet. The purchase is the result of a consortium bid/purchase process in partnership with the Ohio Schools Council.

Victory Day Returns to Memorial Stadium
The Huron Tigers and the St. Mary's Panthers are hosting the 2nd Annual Victory Day on Saturday, September 12, at 4:00 P.M

Huron City Schools and the City of Huron are hosting a Back to School Celebration and Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 13th from 6-7pm at the Huron Boat Basin.
